    1. My first yaoi! Aww. Here are my thoughts, which I’m sure you are dying to hear. ;-)I…liked it? But didn’t love it? I mean, it’s very cute, but it’s so…well, immature. There’s an aside from the author at one point where she says, “Well, this is really a girls’ comic, anyway” and…yeah. That’s the problem for me. It’s clearly written with teen girls in mind, and while I must say that Japanese teen girls are TOTALLY AWESOME if this is what they like, I think I’ve outgrown [...]

    2. A little sentimental journey to the past. The story is a little more bland (and with some problematic themes that scream both it's manga and it's been made in 90s) than I remembered but the art is a little better so there is that. I still find this story about two cops cute and funny at times so yeah, a really nice way to waste my evening when I can't think thanks to a deadly case of cold.

    3. Oh man, this series. There are pretty much no words for my love of it. I remember reading it when it first came out about eight years ago and loving it so much that I somehow managed to convince my dad to buy the last volume of it (which was wrapped in plastic to protect innocent eyes) without him actually know what it was about. I recently decided to reread a novel that I loved around the same time, and decided to dig this series out from under my bed for a reread to see if all of my taste was [...]

    4. I think the only reason i held out on reading this one was the art. In the first volume, at least, the art has a bit of an old-style feel to it, it's not the same as many of the newer manga. But i am soooooo glad i got over that and read it.This series is amazing! I'm absolutely in love with it and i'm not even finished yet. I'm a big yaoi fan but i think that even if i wasn't i would still enjoy reading this.I think probably the best part about it is the relationship between the two main charac [...]

    5. I love Fake so much. It's another one of my favorite m/m manga. The story involves Ryo and Dee, two cops who have just been assigned as partners. Dee is headstrong and boisterous while Ryo is much more laid-back and quiet. Dee develops feelings for Ryo and pretty much makes advances towards him for quite a bit of the series. The stories are your typical cheesy manga stuff but Dee and Ryo's relationship is really cute. It's an older series with some aged art inside but it's still well worth a rea [...]

    6. I really enjoyed reading this manga, I know some people think that it can be quite immature but for me that was half the appeal. I really like the the whole tug of war going on between Ryo and Dee. I think it touches really well on the beginnings of a relationship, especially when one of the people involved is unsure of their sexual preference. Okay I admit that it can get a little confusing with the age fluctuation of the other supporting characters but once you get use to that it is a really g [...]

    7. This series will always have a spot in my heart. Every time I read this series, I fall in love with Dee and Ryo all over again. Two New York detectives fighting crime and gradually falling for each other. Dee is bisexual, known to go after anyone good looking, and he has his sites on his new partner,Ryo. Ryo, unsure of his own sexuality, is not sure how to handle Dee, let alone his own heart.

    8. After the last Manga I read, this one was a palm for my soul. Even if I don't really like how it's drawn, or that some parts of the story are hilarious in their inaccuracy of police procedure. But it makes up for it with the warmth of the characters.

    9. Not my usual style, but the story grows on you. The art style is real clean. I like that the main characters aren't straight. It's a nice change of pace.

    10. 02/13/11Reread 04/06/15: (Review of whole series)Here are the reasons I love Fake…It’s serious. There’s still that stylized manga spazziness in the characters, but there are also real crime plots and intense scenes. It works as a fusion of crime and romance manga, not just a police-themed story. The romance gets dragged out a little in the middle volumes, but for the most part it’s remarkably believable. Dee is totally open about being into Ryo and is constantly pouncing on him in true m [...]

    11. 4/5 estrellas.

    12. Ryo arrives at his new post at the NYPD only to find he's been partnered with Dee -- a loud mouthed, belligerent, horndog of a man. However, despite Dee's forward comments and advances, Ryo finds he's a good partner who can think quick under pressure and save his ass when they're in hot water. Their first case together has them trying to solve the murder of a man who was supposedly skimming drugs he'd been running for a kingpin. His son, Bikky, is somehow involved and, despite their differences, [...]

    13. HEY THERE! I'M YELLING REALLY LOUD! DOES THAT MAKE ME FUNNY?!?!The volume for this whole book was loud. Everyone yells at everyone elser comedic purposes? Couple that with awkward lines like "we call all the rookies new children" and "what's your Japanese name?" and you have a pretty unrealistic world filled with unrealistic characters. The plot barely holds together and is pretty horrible much of the way through. The characters of Bikky and Carol threaten to be annoying in later volumes. But wh [...]

    14. I do believe that, like many others, this was my first venture into yaoi. I was familiar with the concept, naturally, but I hadn't actually read much, if any.A college friend lent this to me. Whoop! College! She had threatened to lend it to a first time manga readerFAKE was interesting. It's the tale of Ryo and Dee, one of whom has just been put on the job. He is partnered with the other cop, and so the story begins. The first crime they had to solve had a kid called Bikky involved. His father ha [...]

    15. I want to thank Fake. It was one of my very first Yaoi series and it really amazed me. I feel in love within minutes and quickly snapped up the rest. I was in my last years of High school, and loved manga but was looking for different avenues and sub-genres to explore within. I discovered Fake by chance, I went in blind with this Yaoi. I had read some very light Shonen-ai and yes Fake for around the 5 volumes is more Shounen-ai than Yaoi. But when it did happen, I got it. I liked and wanted more [...]

    16. This is an illustrated story that reads back to front about two young male officers recently partnered up who are painfully attracted to each other. Dee is out and doesn't care who knows it (though he claims he's "bi") while Ryo is much more innocent and confused by his feelings. With Dee in the lead, he creates some cute, sexy, comical situations and steals a kiss from Ryo whenever and wherever he can. The two must fight drug lords and deal with young delinquents. The dialogue between Dee & [...]

    17. I remember watching the quirky private detective comedy "Moonlighting" growing up. I didn't like the starring duo that much, but their quirky, sexually charged interaction as well as the completely tongue-in-cheek storylines really worked as a kid. The show was also smarter than it at first glance appeared. The reason I'm babbling on about an 80's TV-series in this review is that "Fake" is essentially the very same thing. A serious detective gets paired up with a reckless one, the unlikely duo fi [...]

    18. This was one of the very first manga series I read as a whole a few years back, and my love for it hasn't altered much. Before this, I was stuck obsessing over yaoi fanfiction for normally straight characters, so imagine my surprise when I stumbled across the actual thing, for characters fully intended to be gay! I adored every second, and hunted down the whole set, sometimes paying way too much but knowing it would be worth it in the end.So they're cops, and you get to see heaps of gore and vio [...]

    20. I must admit, I've gotten so used to the impression of yaoi = straight to bedroom-fun, that this one, with its handful of kisses and nothing more, was quite refreshing. (Sorry for the run-on) It's an interesting start of a series, at least. I mean, undercover cops dealing with druggies and crooks, you're gonna find loads of action. And of course, having two hot gay/bi leads is sure to loads of "action" as well. But not in this volume, so calm down, yaoi fangirls! While I cannot deny the strange [...]

    21. My favorire yaoi manga to date. Seven volume series following the romance between Ryo and Dee two newly partnered New York cops. Love the clean artwork, kooky characters and the story. Even the supporting characters like Bikky and Carol two teenage hoods that adopt our boys as surrogate parent/guardian figures are both really funny and very likeable. This first book has 3 main stories: introduces Bikky as the cops do a drug bust, Carol as she pickpockets the wallet of a drug lord, and JJ the eag [...]

    22. Ryo and Dee are two New York City cops. They not only fight crimes but also have to fight their attraction for one another. Things are even more complicated when one does not want to admit the feelings he's experiencing. This manga deals with homosexuality in a different way. It might not be a great book for any specific assignment, but I think having it in the classroom might help some students feel more comfortable with the changes that they themselves might be experiencing.I loved this book. I [...]

    23. So I only managed to read the first chapter of this manga before putting it down in disgust. It has a good premise, and has good characters, even if the speed of the story moves along quite quickly. However, within the space of four pages, a homophobic slur is used twice; now I get that not many people are phased by this and it's not fair to judge a book solely on this, but as a gay man, it is quite upsetting to come across within literature, especially when it's used in an offensive term.A sham [...]

    24. It's been years now and I still keep coming back to this series, my ultimate fave amongst the sea of Yaoi mangas! I always get butterflies in my stomach every time I read this. What I love about it is that there's no pedo stuff going on here(unlike most yaoi mangas today, ugh!) just adults with guns, an entertaining characters and story line and good laughs(humping like rabbits LOL). Oh yeah I looooove the art style! Late 80's flair and yeah Dee and Ryo are just drawn HOT. I was just disappointe [...]

    25. This is a series close to my heart, since it was the first yaoi series I began collecting, if I remember correctly. It was also the first contact I had with yaoi anime--or in the case of FAKE, yaoi OAV.FAKE is good, solid fun, IMO. The characters are endearing in their own ways, and the seven-volume run was pretty much perfect for the pace of the relationship development between Dee and Ryo. The one gripe about FAKE is that a lot of the development between the two men has a back and forth feel a [...]

    26. I have a cold and so am feeling a bit sorry for myself and something that always makes me feel better is FAKE. Then I realised that I've never reviewed this series here so here we goRandy 'Ryo' MacLean joins NYPD's 27th precinct and is partnered with Dee Laytner, and so begins an epic 'will they? won't they?' romance with Dee chasing Ryo, but Ryo holding back, all while they are solving crimes together. Why do I love it? Because Dee and Ryo are so clearly attracted to each other despite Ryo's mis [...]

    27. I picked up seven volumes of Fake at a book sale not knowing that it was Yaoi manga. This series follows two male New York cops (one of whom is half Japanese)who seem to be attracted to each other. It's a good read. Picture a cop story where a male and female character find themselves attracted to each other while working on their every day cases.Change that to two guys, and you've got the twist. They even have a young street thug who they've "adopted" and are tryng to help lead a good life. The [...]
