    1. First things first: I'm sorry, Cyndi!!Cyndi is my friend who loves Nora Roberts. Actually, I might have 1-starred this baby if not for my guilt over not liking this book.Okay, now that that's done, let's dish about why I hated it!First, we have Jo. She's a professional photographer who has a stalker, and goes back to her childhood home after the stalker drives her crazy in a literal sense. Here are some of our descriptions of what Jo looks like:Tall & thinShort, red, curly hairBlue eyesPale [...]

    2. With some books you have to take some time to digest it before you can talk about them, but with others the feelings come bursting out the second it's finished. That's how I feel about this book.It is so amazing! There are strong characters, including the island, itself.Sanctuary is an inn on a small island of the coast of the Carolinas. Twenty years ago a tragedy damaged the members of the Hathaway family in ways that have affected their whole lives. Now the danger has returned. Will they surviv [...]

    3. Ok. Fair enough- you don't expect a romance novel to change your life but this was justd.Your loving mother disappears in the night? Don't worry about her- hate her! She must have run off. True, she never showed any signs of unhappiness or unfaithfulness, but you know women Your best friend disappears from a bonfire? When you check her house, nothing is missing and it's clear she never came back from said party? Pshaw! No worries! She's probably not dead- she must have met a man and run off with [...]

    4. SummaryPhotographer Jo Ellen Hathaway thought she'd escaped the house called Sanctuary long ago. She'd spent her loneliest years there, after the sudden, unexplained disappearance of her mother. Yet the sprawling inn off the Georgia coast continues to haunt her dreams. And now, even more haunting are the pictures someone is sending her: strange close-ups and candids, culminating in the most shocking portrait of all—a photo of her mother—naked, beautiful, and dead. Now Jo must return to the is [...]

    5. This was slow and boring in comparison to some other Nora Roberts' novels. I also didn't feel any "bond" with the characters, and I didn't like how the story switched between different storylines and characters. I also didn't quite understand why the Hathaway family could so easily believe that the dissapearance of a loving wife and mother of three didn't have anything to do with some crime. They believed that she just walked out on them and resented her memory. That really didn't play right for [...]

    6. Oh dear, I have enjoyed several Nora Roberts books in the past but this fell way short of a decent story. Jo Hathaway, a successful photographer flees back to the Desire, the island she grew up on after being targeted by a cruel stalker. Someone is sending her disturbing pictures of her mother - and she disappeared twenty years ago. One dimensional characters, an awful plot line and a murderer that I worked out REALLY early on. Not to mention a dodgy hero and a dysfunctional family. I'll still r [...]

    7. Here's another longer NR book that tries to develop three different romances in the same book, and again, I'd rather she stuck to one per book. I feel like she didn't do the main romance justice. And there was just a little too much nastiness in this one, rapes and murders, and*spoiler here**stop reading if you don't want to know whodunit.* the really evil sociopaths were the father and brother of our hero. Didn't like that much.

    8. **********SPOILERS**********************Kind of disappointed. The storyline itself was interesting enough, although, like others have said, the "perpetrator" is not difficult to guess after a while. What made this book go all the way down to 2 stars for me:1) So Nate KNOWS full well his dad raped and killed Jo's, Brian's and Lexi's mom and yet, the way he acts around them is so breezy and comfortable and he even starts (casually, at first) flirting with Jo. It's so unnatural and unrealistic!! He [...]

    9. 3.5*Great beginning, lots of suspense , but somewhere midway it fell flat! Didn't really convince me of the killer's motive! Couple had a weird relationship, too. Not a lot of chemistry

    10. I haven't read a good mystery in a long time. This story us about a family that was torn apart by a tragedy that happened twenty years ago. Jo Ellen's family lives on a island off the coast of Georgia while she us a famous photographer in New York. Jo Ellen gets some pictures sent to her that turns her world upside down to the point where she is hospitalized with a breakdown. When she us released from the hospital she goes back home to the island to spend time with her family. While she us there [...]

    11. Didn't care for this book all that much. I liked the plot and the main idea for the story. And I really like the mystery of it. But for one thing, it was a little too easy to figure out. A little too much Criminal Minds, I guess, but I picked up on who the stalker/murderer was pretty easily. Also, the characters were really annoying. They can't decide what they want, who they want. and they're constantly yelling or telling each other off. I understand that that is kind of what the story is about [...]

    12. I always enjoy Nora. I find her style good to escape in four a few hours. yes her books are fairly predictable but getting there is always good.

    13. I loved it. It was great. Full of suspense, love, and mystery just like all of Nora's books. I loved the island setting, too. It was easy for me to paint the image in my mind being a Floridian.

    14. Norah Roberts is always entertaining. This romance/mystery is set on an island in Georgia and follows the arc of not only one romance but three. Great beach read.

    16. - Your mother suddenly disappears and you just assume that she has abandoned your family? You never report it or look more closely into it, for real?- Your friend suddenly disappears and you find it strange but do not do anything about it, seriously?- Why Nora Roberts LOVES putting a character of a slutty sister in almost every book? I can name dozens of her books with such a character. This one (Leslie) was slutty and annoying just like any other.- Nathan almost fucks Jo's sister (Leslie), but [...]

    17. I was in the mood for a murder mystery when I bought this book a few weeks ago. I have read one Nora Roberts in the past (Midnight Bayou) which I really liked. Strangely enough, it was the ONLY one of her books I liked. The very first sentence in this book reminded me too much of DuMaurier's "Rebecca", for a start; a little unoriginal. Then I stumbled across the name of the fictional island in the story - "Lost Desire" - and I just knew this was going to be one heck of a cheesy ride. If you love [...]

    18. Well, I picked it up randomly, not expecting anything. It was scary, so I guess that's well done (or I'm a wimp, which is very probable too). I didn't like the fact that every single person is strikingly handsome, happens to find a soul mate right there waiting for them, and they keep having fabulously stupendous sex all the time including all the first times, which is soooo likely. Also including in the case of one person who's never enjoyed sex and all of a sudden has awesome orgasms all the t [...]

    19. Well, it had to happen, I guess: I finally found a Nora Roberts book I didn't like! I really hate reading about people keeping secrets from each other for the whole book. I don't think it was adequately explained why people believed Belle just left her family with nothing in her possession and no past history of treating them badly. And I had the murderer pegged the minute I read the first sentence introducing him/her. The setting up of another character as the must-be-him murderer was too overd [...]

    21. Why oh why did I bother to pick up another Nora Robert's book? I should know better after the first 2 not to touch another one. They are almost all the same like Nicholas Spark books. When you have read one you have read them all. And for the love of god what is it with there must be a slutty sister or cousin for out MC? Or that the "hero" (and I use that term with a shit ton of sarcasm) be a domineering asshole who pushes and bullies till he gets what he wants and knows just what is right for t [...]

Adoro!aviciadadoslivros/

    23. Cannot put my finger on it but I do feel that something was lacking in this book. Maybe a little more depth to the mystery? I am not so sure. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the story just felt a little empty at times.

    25. Hm. The writing was fine, but there were some logistical leaps here. I understand they searched and didn't find the mom, butere wasn't any evidence that she left either. Did she just vanish that evening, taking zero clothes, money, mementos, anything? From a place that was her family's for generations? If there are no signs of trouble in the marriage or with the kids, I don't see how they leaped to this conclusion. I felt for Nathan, but I did think it was pretty ass of him to not tell Jo what h [...]

    26. Entertaining but not her best workI'm a Nora Roberts fan for those times when I just want some escapism. This book was suspenseful and entertaining, but I feel like the author was doing the typical murder mystery/suspense/romance thing and hadn't really found her groove yet when this was written. The relationships were a little too non-consensual at first, the women were strong but not the well-rounded characters she writes now and she only did that three-phrase thing in conversations that I con [...]

    27. This was my first book by Nora Roberts and made me a fan for life. I have re-read this book at least 30 times and it never gets old. Every time I get sucked right back in, the relationship(or lack there of) is mesmerizing, amusing, real and so so relatable. you can see and feel how each character thinks and feels and what I love about this book of how in the end it brings the entire family close after years, how the book takes you along each and everyone's happy ever after. As always Nora Robert [...]

    28. I'm glad I didn't buy this book, I found it in the Little Free Library in a nearby park. I just thought it'd be a good summer reading, light and easy. Well, it is and that's about it. Pretty bad plot and very annoying characters. The book is also way too long for what it is. Not sure I'll be reading any of her other books.
