    1. When this showed up on RAVELRY, I suspected that it might contain retreads of old patterns and some cast-off ideas cobbled together after EZ's death.Was I wrong! New perspective and instructions on established patterns, and several ingenious new projects.The hat on the cover project was an unfortunate choice, IMHO. The projects inside are much better.If you love EZ, or if you knit for style and not for fashion, add this to your collection. But get Knitting Without Tears first.

    2. Love Elizabeth's pursuit of creative genius while keeping it simple with garter stitch, which she saw as the meat & potatoes of knitting. This book has a diversity of designs and some will be delightful to try, especially the big collar long coat, which is gorgeous. However, at this stage of my knitting, where I haven't done socks, never mind a sweater, I'll have to wait to further explore these designs. A wonderful resource to have if you're passionate about knitting.

    3. If you're a knitter and don't know who Elizabeth Zimmermann is, you should, because she was the most influential person in American knitting. An artist born in the UK who studied in Germany, she singlehandedly got Americans interested in the craft when she moved here mid-century with her family. She was one of the first knitting designers to be published in America by a major publisher.     4. This is my least favourite EZ book. The patterns in it are either reversed engineered from EZ's knitting or developed from sketches in her notebooks, so this title lacks the EZ commentary that made her other books classics. The patterns themselves are also unappealing - this is the first book of hers that I haven't thought "Gosh, isn't that clever?"     5. Excellent book from the files of Elizabeth Zimmermann - knitter extradorinaire. There are two projects I've decided to do from here. Though not entirely an "only" garter stitch book, I've have to say the non-garter sections of a pattern are very small. Amazing how much you can do with one simple stich.

    7. While I am an advanced knitter, this is a great book for those who just stitch the garter stitch. There is a lovely cardigan pattern in this book that has some combos that attracted me to the book and so I purchased it as I will no doubt make the cardigan.
