    1. Sleeping with Dogs and Other Lovers is, in a word, a hoot. I enjoy stories in which average people are placed in ridiculous situations with outrageous characters and have found that it take writing skill to make those situations and characters plausible. Julia Dumont has done it, and done it nicely.Briefly, Cynthia is a forty-something single woman who has just started a matchmaking agency (and, I suspect, will be foundation for future writing efforts from Dumont). Just as she’s getting her ag [...]

    2. Julia Dumont's Sleeping with Dogs and Other Lovers, is a steamy, laugh out loud funny book for ladies looking for a novel with romance, sex, and comedy all in one package. Sleeping with Dogs and Other Lovers is a very quick read, perfect for a weekend filled with your man watching football (can you tell I'm speaking from experience?) This is the first book in the Second Acts series. Be warned that Dumont's novel is sexually graphic in language and scenes! If you like more of a vanilla read then [...]

    3. My first thought upon finishing this book: what in the hell was this book about? My second thought: thank goodness that's over. Here is your basic plot: Cynthia has started a matchmaking business, determined to use her time honed skills of sussing out who's right for whom to help out the lovelorn. An ex boyfriend shows up to test her limits, and she has to decide whether she wants to try again with him.Oh, and dogs. There are dogs here too. One of Cynthia's clients owns some dogs, one of whom seem [...]

    5. DNFThis was cute enough but all the inner monologue and the circular conversation in this girl's head was too much for me.

    6. BOOK SYNOPSISA SECOND ACTS NOVEL:Sleeping with Dogs and Other LoversCynthia Amas has her hands full. In the middle of launching a boutique matchmaking service amid the sun, surf, and celebrities of Southern California, her own romantic life gets a whole lot more complicatedd steamy. This was supposed to be a good fun love story read, which was what it started out as and then it went left. Somewhere out there is the point in this story, it just isn't in this book.First we have the lead character who has a mother that is 'typical' of these novels, nosey, setting her 'lonely' daughter up all the time and has no sense of boundaries AT ALL. And while yes I freely admit to having my own f [...]

    9. Author: Julia DumontPublished by: BroadLitAge Recommended: AdultReviewed By: Arlena DeanBook Blog For: GMTARating: 4Review:"Sleeping with Dogs and other Lovers: A Second Act Novel (Second Acts #1)"by Julia Dumont was simply funny to read. Cynthia Amas was a marketer now turned match maker is able to help everyone except herself. So, Cynthia will have to reinvent herself. She really has such enthusiasm for her clients, her mom that was over the top with it all and that ex lover who would not go a [...]

    10. A very short rather dynamic novella, easy to read and fun about the dating process. It follows the adventures of Cynthia's strange customers. She has recently set up her dating agency and wants to be available to her clients and treat them like friends. But single herself while working in this sector of activity, this leads her to an update on her own love life. The situation becomes very funny when a former lover resurfaces in Cynthia's life just when her career took off. Unexpected comical sit [...]

    11. And after an evening of wine and soaking in the hot tub I have had to curl up in bed all alone. Dear Hubby has been taking care of the home fires (and pets) for me. But I do not have to be lonely. Not at all. Instead I have been loving Sleeping with Dogs and Other Lovers by Julia Dumont. Now let me start off that this is my old teen years coming to life once again. I was totally addicted to True Love magazines. Now I have my grown up and enjoyable version in a Second Acts novel. Now this is just [...]

    12. A cute and quirky book about a girl who hasn't had much luck in the love department, but runs her own matchmaking business. Cynthia Amas is a busy woman. She is quite hung up on an ex, Max. She also enjoys setting up clients on dates. While trying to pursue her own relationships, she is constantly bombarded with phone calls from clients who either get themselves into funny situations, seek her advice, or just want to give her a play-by-play.I thought this book was cute and funny. The main charac [...]

    13. I found this little jewel on "NetGalley"I've always enjoyed discovering new authors and their work. It seems that NetGalley has been my "treasure chest" lately. "A second acts novel" is one of the jewels from this "treasure chest". I've enjoyed the most the funny and clever dialogs. People are "smart-mouthing" each other a lot. The characters in the book, especially the heroine, are so "colorful" that it feels like they've come out straight from one of Pedro Almodovar's movies. "A second act" is [...]

    14. I enjoyed this book a great deal. It was humorous and sexy and a lot of fun. I loved the character of Cynthia, a girl who's down on her luck when it comes to her own love live but is so amazing when it comes to everyone else's that she starts her own dating service. I liked her relentless, but somewhat flakey mother, and her new friend Lolita as well. Lolita's dogs were downright weird, and you never knew where they were going to show up next. The story is engaging and fast-paced with Cynthia on [...]

    15. I received this book yesterday and after viewing the cover proceeded to start reading, thinking it would be a good way to spend some time a few hours later I finished the book. It was sometimes funny and had a few interesting characters, especially the 'gifted' dogs. The main character, Cynthia, was both likable and a bit irritating. Why keep going back to someone you know isn't good for you? I know it is easy to tell others not to, but harder to do yourself. She is successful in life, even thou [...]

    16. Rating: 3.5 out of 5.Sleeping with Dogs and Other Lovers centres around Cynthia who is a match-maker. She herself, however, has a disastrous dating history and continues to do so in this book. So if you are looking for a one woman, one man love story, then this might not be your thing. This book was highly unusual, but amusing, which was what I think the author aimed for. There was also a paranormal pack of dogs; I guess that’s where the book got its title. Like I said, a highly unusual book, [...]

    17. I highly enjoyed this book. I couldn't wait to dive right in to the second book. I'm not so sure of the main character. She really sweet, but I don't think she's the best judge of character. Her best friend is a little psycho and not in a good way. Her fling is a total ass. And it doesn't come across that she really notices these things and that they both need to be kicked to the curb. I really liked the story. It held my interest from beginning to end. I would definitely recommend giving this s [...]

    18. Disclosure: This ebook was provided to me free of charge through NetGalley for the sole purpose of an honest review. All thoughts, comments, and ratings are my own.Really interesting tale that had my attention the whole time. The pace was wonderful and the characters engaging. Beautiful storytelling that entertained the whole time!It had really great flow and did the job of making me think at times. I love a book that taps into my emotions. 19. This book made me laugh out loud. Cynthia is a marketer turned matchmaker who can help everyone but herself. Like so many of us, she has had to reinvent herself. I loved her energy and enthusiasm for her clients, understand her frustration with her over-the-top-mom, and found myself wanting to give her some good advice about her bad-boy ex lover who just won't go away. Her new client and friend Lolita is the kind of character you love to find in a book -- one with dark secrets and some very unus [...]

    20. This was an interesting read for me. I was expecting a romantic comedy, but instead I got a book that was funny at time and tedious at others. I really wanted more romance in this book. Cynthia was a bit much for me. She didn't seem to have a backbone when it came to her own relationships, yet she's helping others with theirs. They highlight of this book were the dogs! I LOVED the dogs.I plan to read the next one in the series and I hope to find romance in that one!

    21. Interesting read, were Dumont takes readers on a journey of dating and relationships.Cynthia opens an online dating service to help others find that one person for them. She is good at doing that for her friends but not herself.Laugh out loud moments and good weekend read…

    22. I received this book as a free first read from . This book is listed as a Romance novel, but there was no romance in it at all. There were attempts at humor, but I do not believe that anyone who doe snot live in California would relate to it at all.

    23. I liked this story and the characters especially Cynthia and Max!!!! A super read for an afternoon, the story quickly grabs you and you're off and running!

    24. Just what was this book about again? Certainly not my cup of tea. for me it was all over the place. But I digress to each his own.

    25. Only reason I gave it one star? They wouldn't let me give it zero. Horrible book, tasteless, tacky and definitely not worth 99 cents

    26. I really enjoyed this read! I love the humor and I ended up relating to Cynthia's crazy escapades with bad boyfriends and crazy mother.

    27. Laugh out loud book, I love Lolita and the dogs great read. Max (the man not the dog) is a tool and fun to laugh at

    28. I received this book yesterday morning and was up all night reading it good book I completed in two days good book Ive completed and recommend it
