1 thought on “Happy Birdday, Tacky!”

    1. It's Tacky the Penguin's birdday, and all of his penguin friends plan a surprise party. But despite their good intentions, things go wrong, starting with the present they've chosen for him. He even plops the fishy ice cream--UGH!--in a cone and uses it as a birdday hat. When the dancer they've hired to entertain their friend injures herself, Tacky keeps things going by teaching everyone his new dance. The text, Tacky's irrepressible personality, and the colorful illustrations will make readers s [...]

    2. This is another fun addition to the adorable Tacky the Penguin series by Helen Lester. Honestly I can't say enough about Helen Lester and her lovable characters that she so effortlessly brings to life. She somehow manages, with the help of the delightful illustrations of Lynn Munsinger, to have such depth and character development. Often times more than a chapter book character that has more time to become developed. In this book Tacky's friends are throwing him a "Birdday Party," of course they [...]

    3. We love the Tacky stories by Helen Lester and Lynn Munsinger. The narratives are entertaining and the illustrations are always so humorous. This is a fun story about a celebration for Tacky's birdday, and would be a great birthday gift. We enjoyed reading this book together.

    4. Another fun "Tacky" Book! I love Tacky and this book does not fail. Goodly. Lovely, Angel, Neatly and Perfect plan what they want to be the "perfect" bird party for Tacky complete with fishy ice cream. True to form, "Tacky style" things do not go as planned but that does not mean it is not the perfect "birdday" party. Tacky, teaches Twinklewebs, a professional dancing penguin, his "Flapwaddle" dance and the party is a hit. This book will encourage reade to continue to read other "Tacky" books if [...]

    5. Happy Birdday, Tacky!Helen LesterThis review and more like it can be found on Get Kids to Read. mrtierneyslibrary. Happy Birdday, Tacky by Helen Lester is a good picture book for children ages 2-7. It is about Tacky's birdday which is the day he hatched. As the other penguins try to hold a party nothing seems to go right. I think children will enjoy this book it has appealing illustrations and is funny.

    6. Goodly, Lovely, Angel, Neatly, and Perfect are planning a happy birdday party for Tacky, who somehow manages to simultaneously ruin all the party plans and have a heckuva time anyway wearing the ice cream cone as a party hat, passing the birdday cake (literally) and dancing his flapwaddle dance with guest Twinklewebs, the Dance Queen.Tacky is as wacky as ever, and his fans will enjoy this funny new addition to the series.

    7. When I was a first grade teacher, I used to read all of the Tacky the Penguin books to my class. I had not seen this one before so when at the library with my young niece I spied it. I immediately checked it out. I liked it because it followed the premise of all the other Tacky stories. Not the best Tacky the Penguin book (don't start with this one), but not a bad one to add to the series.

    8. I love that the surprise entertainment for Tacky's IMPERFECT Perfect Surprise Birthday Party, Twinklewebs, announced, "I want to perform for you a denz peez from 'Swan Frozen-Body-of-Water.'" It was fun to see Twinklewebs as a drama queen and how she comes around when Tacky does his own thing--as usual.

    9. I loved the way that this bok shows children that yno one is perfect and what is perfect to you may not be to someone else. The pictures in this book was very colorful and detailed and was fun to look at. I feel like I could create my own story with the pictures.LE: We would plan a surprise party and make all the decorations and plans for the party.

    10. Crazy Tacky is at it again! This time Tacky's friends want to surprise him with an amazing birdday party. Perfect has made sure everything is perfect and yet with Tacky around the Birdday party is not the perfect occasion. Younger readers will be dancing along with Tacky's crazy dance and laughing at all the party mishaps!

    11. It's Tacky's birdday (aka birthday) and his friends have planned a surprise party for him. They are a little disappointed when Tacky enjoys the festivities in ways they hadn't planned on, but it's Tacky's winning personality that saves the day and gets everyone dancing! PreK-2.

    12. Everyone was going to celebrate tackys birthday with a special and perfect party. Things didn't turn out everyone had planned but tacky shows that a party doesn't have to be perfect to be lots if fun.

    13. More enthusiastic Tacky goofiness. This time the penguins are celebrating Tacky's birthday with food, a presents, cards, and special entertainment. Young readers will enjoy Twinklewebs, the dance queen from Iglooslavia, and the Flapwaddle Dance.

    14. I always enjoy the Tacky books. I liked seeing how Goodly, Lovely, Angel, Neatly and Perfect were trying to do something nice for Tacky and that they always include him even though he's different than they are.

    15. This would be so much fun to read aloud--especially the Surprise part. So fun. I think the preschoolers would enjoy. Tacky is always a fun addition. And the illustrations always have an "older" picture book feel (reminiscent to me of Steven Kellogg and other Reading Rainbow-like books).

    16. I love this new Tacky book and would like to give it a "beeg kees!" Wonder if I could get some of my older storytime kiddos to do the Tacky dance with me? :)

    17. Another Tacky the penguin story, as with all a good message here about independence. Has a fun little dance that kids will love to do.

    18. Wonderful illustrations and as usual Tacky sets a fine example of displaying the merits of being yourself.

    19. Tacky's companions plan the "perfect" party for Tacky. :)Note: Not a good "first" read of the Tacky books it is much more fun once the characters are known.
