    1. Storyteller as Healer…When I finished reading Lesley Kempes’ second novel BONE HORSES, I thought, wow, storytelling can’t get any better than this. And then I read her first novel CANYON OF REMEMBERING, and I’m left with a feeling of gratitude. Gratitude that I’m the lucky reader on the receiving end of a precious gift. A gift that has the power not only to entertain but also to heal. Lesley Kempes writes stories that feed the soul. Her characters invite you into their world, and once [...]

    2. Some parts of this novel are wonderful, like the fact that it reminded me so well of the beauty of northern New Mexico. Some of the characters were decently drawn as well, and there are cute kittens that will make you say "aw!" a few times. But in other ways, this is the work of a novice. Characters become caricatures, the plot is both predictable and cheesy, and if I heard the local priest called "the good padre" one more time, I might have stomped on the book. Just a little bit.

    3. I like reading anything about New Mexico. Enjoyed the diversity of characters and the story line too.

    4. IntriguingI loved the author's unique use of words. The story is like a painting. Now I need to see more!

    5. A beautiful book! I didn't want it to finish. As Tony Hillman wrote on the back cover, "Lesley Poling-Kempes has given us a story full of joy, sadness, love, and beauty--and most of all, full of truth. Canyon of Remembering deserves a place among American classics."

    6. What a good read! I enjoyed the story line but also the description of life in a northern small New Mexico village. Thanks to the author for weaving a tale with rich descriptions of the land and vistas we so love in this area of New Mexico.
