    1. THE CHRISTMAS DUCHESS by Christine Merrill Thirty-five-year-old widow Generva has a problem---her daughter Gwen has been jilted by her boyfriend Tom so Gwen won't be having her Christmas wedding. Tom's uncle, Thomas Kanner (Duke of Montford) is visiting for the wedding. He steps in to help but ends up falling for Generva. This was a slow and sweet story of two people who have loved and lost and find romance at Christmas. I liked Generva's mischievous son BenSSIAN WINTER NIGHTS by Linda Skye Love [...]

    2. The Christmas Duchess - Christine MerrillHer daughter recently jilted, widowed Generva feels anything but festive--until the unexpected arrival of Thomas Kanner, Duke of Montford, transforms the Marsh household. Might there be a Christmas wedding after all?Good story. Generva is coping with the scandal created by the young man who was supposed to marry her daughter on Christmas Day. It turned out that he was already married, leaving her daughter to face the gossip. Two days before Christmas, his [...]

    3. Such a sweet story!! Found myself wishing it wasn't an anthology, because I would have loved a novel-length story with these charming characters.

    4. Anthologies often turn out unevenly, a result which might seem inevitable. Given that different authors have different voices which don't all appeal to the same reader, it makes sense. However, Wish Upon a Snowflake ended up being one of those rare anthologies where I ended up enjoying all of the stories. In The Christmas Duchess, Christine Merrill takes a sweet fairytale of a story, and tells it well. Generva Marsh, widow of a Navy Captain, starts the tale prepared to head into a holiday of sham [...]

    5. okay people. the rating works like this. The Christmas Duchess by Christine Merrell 3.5 stars. Cute if simple story about a widow and a duchess falling in love. Sweet. Bonus points for cute kid and dog.Russian Winter Nights by Linda Skye Zero Stars. So ridiculously written that I stopped reading it after the first five pages. Seriously, so bad. Just no.A Shocking Proposition by Elizabeth Rolls 4 stars. I've never heard of this author before but I'll be looking for more by her. I liked both charac [...]

    6. Christmas AnthologyThe Christmas Duchess by Christina MerrillBest of the bunch. Exceptionally likable characters, lots of Christmas atmosphere, older than normal hero and heroine. My first read by this author and I’ll look for more.Russian Winter Nights by Linda SkyeDepressing insta-lust story, somewhat open-ended, never really connected with the characters. Not much Christmas spirit either. Doesn't fit well with the other stories.A Shocking Proposition by Elizabeth RollsNice story, plot would [...]

    7. The Christmas Duchess by Christine Merrill was very good I found the characters endearing and very likeable. A very good read. I would have given just this story a 4.5 rating.Russian Winter Nights by Linda Skye was barely tolerable for me. I liked the main characters well enough but the secondary characters were despicable. Also the story and setting really were not appealing. The ending however was the very worst. If it had ended differently I might have liked it a little bit more, however, the [...]

    8. Three stories in one book. I liked the first one by Christine Merrill the best: about a widow and a widower who have met over the issue of her daughter and his nephew's wedding which dissolved when the nephew left the daughter standing at the alter. The second story was atypical from most of these romances. Takes place in Russia. She is the niece of an malevolent Russian empress. He is an architect who has been hired by the empress to work on the palace. Very strange ending. The third one is a ve [...]

    9. the Merrill story was delightful, if a little too easily resolved. i adore when the older woman, in this case, the widowed mom, is the one to find lovee last story, shocking proposition, was pretty good. she never did say if the hero stopped having nightmares. The Russian one in the middle though? what was that? what in the world? surely Russians historically wore coats in the snow? and it goes downhill from there.

    10. I don't think you can ever go wrong reading a book by Christine Merrill. I love her writing. Her characters and stories are always very entertaining. This was a story of an older heroine & love the second time around. I was introduced to two new authors in this combined book by Harlequin. I enjoyed the other two stories also and will be looking for other books by the authors.

    11. "The holidays and some winter magic inspire three unique novellas. From the quiet English countryside to a glittering St. Petersburg palace, these stories encourage readers to recall the many joys of falling in love. Light, pleasing and just the quick pick-me-up needed during this hectic season" (RT Book Reviews, 4 stars).
