    1. Summer's mother and sister, Oriole and Sparrow, are flighty and birdbrained, just like their names suggest. Unfortunately, those qualities are much more endearing in a seven-year-old than the mother. Summer is definitely the adult in the family, and when it seems Oriole's latest boyfriend might be getting her into a whole heap of trouble, Summer is the one who has to figure out how to get them out of it.As always, Snyder's young adult characters resonate with the reader. 2. Zilpha Keatley Snyder is criminally underrated. Somehow I missed this one in my childhood -- but this is actually a pretty intense book, and I'm glad I read it as an adult. Thank you to Google books. I'm actually older than the mom. Crazy!

    3. Child abuse and drug use. Not real serious as of p. 39, but ugly enough. Just, no, not for me. There are so many books I want to read, won't waste my time w/ this.
