    1. This novel is a straight forward Christian romance. It is an easy read with no confusing plot twists nor thought provoking social issues. Penn is a twenty six year old high school teacher living in Mars, Pennsylvania. (Yes, there really is the town north of Pittsburgh.) She is studying hard to pass the CPA exam with thoughts of getting a career boosting job in the city. That's until John shows up riding his motorcycle. There are some good themes running through this novel. One is that tragedy doe [...]

    2. Mars With Venus Rising by Hope Toler Dougherty is a delightful Christian novel and I just could not get enough of it!Penn lives in Mars with her aunts Winnie and Jancie. They always have her best interests at heart. Once they meet newcomer John, so they begin match making! The aunts practice the gift of hospitality. They are always cooking and feeding up people. Their generosity knows no bounds. Their recipes are included at the back of the e-copy.The novel is a very comforting novel. Reading it [...]

    3. This book attracted me with it cover and the quirky blurb. The airplane and the car and the pretty girl with the blurb that promised a lot a fun at the small town of Mars felt like a good story to relax with. I was not aware it would be a Christian romance but I have come to realize that Litfuse does offer a lot of those. No issues, I love books that highlight God as a support and guide for us.The story is an interesting one and it deals head on with a personal tragedy that Penn has faced and al [...]

    4. About the Book:A meddling horse, paper bag floors and a flying saucer on the town square. The little town of Mars has it all--including a brand new resident who might spell heartache for one of its own. Twenty-something Penn Davenport yearns for an exciting life in the big city and wants to shed the label of orphan that she's worn for years. 6. Does our past define our present and future? That’s what Hope Toler Dougherty explores in her breezy contemporary romance, Mars . . . with Venus Rising. Quirky characters, a small town vibe and a hunky motorcycle-riding hero combine for a quick read perfect for your weekend getaway. But don’t let this humor-filled book fool you, it will also make you think about what past experiences and fears may keep you from living your life.Penn Davenport has her life planned, if she can just pass her CP [...]

    7. I'm not even sure giddy begins to describe how I feel about this book. The relationship between Penn and her aunts reminds me of my own relationship with my aunt-although neither of us bake. They are able to talk to each other about anything and are always there for one another when life gets too ugly and overwhelming.I enjoyed meeting the character of John. We learned a little bit about his past, but what struck me the most was how thoughtful and caring he was with everyone he came in contact w [...]

    8. You'll find loads of creativity in Mars with Venus Rising. I loved the crazy situations that Penn found herself in, and her zany life lifted the mood from the heavy past she had to overcome. I enjoyed seeing how Penn inched her way to healing and forgiveness by dealing with her issues one small piece at a time. Her family, John, and her friends all hugged and pushed and helped her along the way. Doughterty created a winning cast of characters to bring life to the story, and their quirky persona [...]

    9. When you find a book that makes you feel the character is your neighbor and you're just as involved with the storyline- you know it's good. That's what I discovered with Hope Toler Dougherty's Mars with Venus Rising. The synopsis:.Twenty-something Penn Davenport yearns for an exciting life in the big city and wants to shed the label of orphan that she’s worn for years. To achieve that dream, she must pass the CPA exam then move away from the two aunts who reared her after her parents died in a [...]

    10. This is the perfect cozy little book for curling up with! It's such a cute story with wonderful characters and the perfect amount of romance and humor.Penn has been horribly hurt in her life. She lost her parents when she was young and she was raised by her sweet, loving, funny aunts, Jancie and Winnie. Then when she was in high school, her one and only date ended up horribly and she has sworn off getting involved, and therefore, hurt ever again. It makes for a lonely existence, but she would ra [...]

    11. “Mars…with Venus Rising” is a sometimes serious, sometimes humorous, even sometimes a bit quirky, but always a fun and enjoyable read. Heroine Penn Davenport has allowed her life to be ruled by fear since the death of her parents and brother in a plane crash. She still lives with the two eccentric great aunts who raised her in a home filled with love and the wonderful fragrance of their baking. Naturally Penn would meet and fall for a totally unsuitable man, one who seems to live life on t [...]

    12. This is a charming Christian romance story filled with heartwarming characters. It is well written and engaging, even though at first I had difficulties with Penn's character's behavior and her way of thinking toward John, her childish behavior towards him was often frustrating. Over time I realized her behavior was driven by her life experiences and that John, in true Man of Faith fashion, wouldn't give up on her, no matter how much she tried to push him away. The story had so many different fa [...]

    13. MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOKPenn Davenport’s goal in life is to be a CPA and live the big city life. At the time, she is living with the two aunts that have raised her since her parents died in a plane crash. Then John Townsend arrives in town, causing a lot of questions Penn hadn’t thought about before. And then she finds out that he is a pilot. So much attraction, yet such different people.Mars . . . with Venus Rising is a wonderful entertaining and light read. This is one of those books you c [...]

    14. `Marswith Venus Rising` is a Christian Romance novel written by author Hope Toler Dougherty. From the cover to the description it sounds like a funny novel with a meddling horse and two busy-body aunt's. The intended audience is probably a woman in her early twenties, but I believe any age woman would enjoy this light read. The author has dedicated this novel to her parents and Bobbie & Auline Toler, who always believed. She gives God credit for giving her the desire of her heart. Hope is a n [...]

    15. MARS WITH VENUS RISING is a cute contemporary romance, set, where else, but in Mars. The town, that is. Not the planet. Penn is not open for love. She has dreams. A CPA license. Losing the title of orphan. A big city and the ability to get lost in the crowd. John, on the other hand lives life in the limelight. A pilot--and just as cocky as Tom Cruise on Top Gun. A crimefighter--though he does it from the cockpit. As big as life and despite herself Penn is intrigued. Add some matchmaking aunts, a [...]

    16. This book is charming, quirky full of hope and romance. It shows true love not book love. The author knows how to pull you Into the book and make you a part of the family, a part of the love. Penn is defensive when it comes to love and John is patient when it comes to love because he has GOD directing his love life, and with GOD you can't lose and he did not lose. Penn has had a very hard life but is surrounded by Aunts who love her and a quirky horse. This is funny and quirky and with GOD fun. [...]

    17. I have to admit, I wasn’t sure at first about this book. The title didn’t appeal, as it made me think of astrological readings. But the publisher is one I trust, so I thought, “Why not?” And I loved this story. Quirky and fun, offset by realistic troubles and even heartbreak, Mars…with Venus Rising kept me chuckling and sighing throughout. Mars, Pennsylvania is a real place complete with “flying saucers,” the perfect locale for this delightful story. And paper bag floors? I’d nev [...]

    18. When I decided to pick up this novel, it was an opportunity to read a book by an author I had not heard of before. I do not normally choose books with this type of cover, but I am glad I did this time. Hope drew me into the story from page one where PERI, an unusual name for an unusual horse who like to socialize on her own, made her appearance. Although she is not the main character, she definitely brings out aspects of both Penn and John’s that we would not know about otherwise. I do not thi [...]

    19. I didn’t finish Mars with Venus Rising, and while part of me wonders whether I should write a review on a book I didn’t finish, the other part says that I read half the book, and something is wrong if I can spend that much time getting to know the characters and still not care what happens to them. I think the problems were twofold: there wasn’t enough happening, and the hero was too perfect (his only imperfection was a slight limp. Big deal). Mistakes like "type-o" [sic] didn't help. So I [...]

    20. This review is also posted on Book by Book.MarsWith Venus Rising offers its readers a cute but straightforward contemporary Christian romance. Set in a quirky little town with plenty of personality, it follows longtime resident Penn Davenport and handsome newcomer John Townsend through many humorous scenarios (a few specifically engineered by her matchmaking aunts to encourage love) and personal growth. It’s entertaining and encouraging (and mouth-watering, with its delicious references to swe [...]

    21. Mars…With Venus Rising is a cute and quirky contemporary romance that feels in many ways like a cozy mystery – without the mystery. The small town, the adorably eccentric aunts, even the loaded-with-personality pet. All it’s really missing to achieve “cozy mystery” status is for the Apple Festival coordinator to be found murdered on a parade float or some such tragedy.Despite a few minor editing-related distractions (some plot points that seem to be abandoned, spelling & grammar er [...]

    22. FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Litfuse in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.Mars . . . With Venus Rising by Hope Toler Dougherty was a super sweet story. I found that this story was pretty predictable, but I still loved the book. I fell in love with Penn right from the start, and I had to keep reading because I wanted to know how it all worked out for her throughout the [...]

    23. This is such a cute book! It's a good read for a rainy day, or a sunshiney day, or any day for that matter. I found myself curled up in the porch swing reading in the breeze of the afternoon while my son happily played in the front yard. This book is fully humor and, of course, love. The content is clean, and it's well written with fun characters who find themselves in awkward predicaments at times. Penn lives with her well-meaning aunts who only want the best for her. John is new to town, and r [...]

    24. My Thoughts On The Book: The storyline got off to a slow start for me, but it did get better, much better, and it turned out to be a darling story of love, overcoming obstacles, faith, and courage. I fell in love with the two aunts, Penn, and John and I know you will too. Dougherty makes the characters come alive and you grieve for them, laugh with them, worry about them, and love them. Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from Litfuse Publishing and Pelican Books as part [...]

    25. Penn lives with her two aunts after a tragic plan crash kills her family. Penn and her aunts have a wonderful relationship and strong bond, but Penn has allowed fear and trying new things affect her life and relationships. She meets the new Mars resident John and things start to heat up until she find out that he's a pilot. Penn has to decide if taking a chance on love is worth the risk and possible heart ache. She has to learn to have faith and now let fear rule her life. This was a clean, chri [...]

    26. I really enjoyed reading “Mars…with Venus Rising” even though the frequent food descriptions made me super hungry! lol. Hope Toler Dougherty has included all of the tempting recipes described within the story. I will be making these recipies very soon! Loved the strong characters, & the well-developed plot. Hope sends out an excellent message about reliance on God, this story held my interest from page 1(one) until the end This was my first time reading anything by this author, but I w [...]

    27. If we start out with the cover, I will admit, it really does nothing for me. I like the bright colors, but it doesn't strike me as very professional. Honestly, I'm not sure I'd pick this up off the shelf to see what it was about. If I was to describe this book in one word I think I would use: Uncomplicated. This is a story about overcoming personal fears. There isn't much of a conflict besides the personal ones, and it's just a simple simple story. I was wondering if it was self-published since i [...]

    28. This reads like a super quirky TV show. It has it's good points, but I just couldn't commit to this. However, I have no problem recommending this to anyone who is looking for a clean "boys meets girl" kind of romance. We all know that most romances can be pretty raunchy, but this one has a really good message with clean content. My biggest complaint? The cover. It bugs me in the worst way. WAY too much going on, and the main character is said to have curly hair. What's that chick on the front hav [...]

    29. This is the first book I have read by this author and it was such a fun quick read for me. I loved the cover too it was so bright and colorful. Penn's aunts were so fun and I enjoyed hearing about them in the story. I also liked all the food references and the few recipes that were included. I thought there were some real life situtations that a lot of people can relate to. The book was very light to me and a very quick read. It was fun how Penn and John played off of each other. I think this on [...]
