    1. Reading this just makes me realize how much better the original series is than any of the new 52 Suicide Squad. You've got political intrigue, fantastic villains like the Jihad, and Amanda Waller at her most manipulative. The new series just seems all flash with no substance or stakes. You know in the new 52 version, DC isn't going to kill off any of its IP's. That's not the case here, when the team goes on a mission there's a real danger of them not returning. The issue where Captain Boomerang g [...]

    2. If you're looking for the movie version of the Suicide Squad, you won't really find it here. What you will find is 1980s political intrigue and a robust collection of heroes and criminals among the ever rotating SS ranks as Amanda Waller struggles to keep her covert team a secret from the public. These stories were written before "writing for the trade collection" became the comic book norm, but this just makes it feel like you're getting way more story. Bronze Tiger and Vixen, two of my favorit [...]

    3. Karl Kesel, you are the most underrated inker in comics. Holy moly, what a difference he makes halfway through this one.

    4. While these issues are a little rougher than I imagine, I still find them to be fun comics, groundbreaking for their time.

    5. The Return of the Jihad (17-18). It's nice to see the Squad get a recurring villain. This story is a little brief, and offers very little insight into the Jihad's goals, but it's a nice diptych of villains-victorious/villains-get-their-butts-kicked [7/10].Personal Files: Amanda Walker (19). An issue that's all about character and pushing along continuing plotlines. It's one of Ostrander's strengths [7+/10].Argent (Annual). The extensive history of the Squad in the post-Crisis universe was quite [...]

    6. More thrills from the original series that spawned the hit movie. Newcomers such as Captain Cold, Dr. Light, Punch and Jewelee, Count Vertigo and the Shrike augment the team as some regulars (Nemesis and Nightshade) leave. The Squad is now publicly known, thanks to a crooked politicians blackmail attempt against them. Colonel Flag killed the man (former Squad liaison Derek Tolliver), but a reporter investigating the murder found a memo he was planning to send to the media revealing the Squad's e [...]

    7. The continuing (mis)adventures of the Suicide Squad. In this one, the Squad faces a rematch with the Jihad, engages in a few intergalactic invasions, struggles through Captain Boomerang's moonlighting as the Mirror Master, and faces down the threat of exposure before a congressional committee. As ever, this is a real page-turner!

    8. This 3rd volume is a continuation of the last 2 volumes. The Squad deals with a superpowered terrorist group that attacks NYC, The global alien invasion, and from the government. The solo adventure of Bronze Tiger was definitely a great read. Looking forward to the next volume and the release of the upcoming film.

    9. It's good to remember how good comics use to be and how influential this run of SUICIDE SQUAD was. It's not the movie, but if you love action and intrigue, in an environment where ANYONE really could die or betray, you'll live this series. Ready for the next volume!

    10. Continuing the excellent series, this book has interesting parallels with the Iran contra trials which were happening around the same time.
