    1. One of the most thorough studies of the early developments of Shi'a Islam based on five important books. Amir-Moezzi tries to shed light on the issue of conflicts after the death of prophet using Shia sources which according to him have been unreasonably ignored in Islamic Studies. Amir-Moezzi gives an amazing report of the adaptations of Imami doctrine to different political and theological conditions while being brutally repressed by both the Umayyad and Abbassid rulers.

    2. Like Amir-Moezzi's earlier book, The Divine Guide in Early Shi'ism, this book totally blew me away. Does a great job of showing the impact of violence in the early Islamic period on the codification of the Qur'an and the evolution of Imami/12er Shi'ism's approach towards the Qur'an, Hadith, esotericism, and rationalism from the earliest available sources until the present day (main focus is on the early sources).
