1 thought on “Runaways, Vol. 5: Escape to New York”

    1. I just love this series. It's definitely one of my favorite comics/graphic novels. This one was two stories. The first saw one of my favorite characters leave the planet! I really hope they return. It won't be the same w/o him/her. The second part of this volume has the team helping Cloak figure out who attacked his partner in New York City. We get to see Captain America, Iron Man, Spider Man, even Wolverine!I just really like this series. The "us against the adults" vibe, the humor, the charact [...]

    2. These characters going to New York was GREAT -I LOVED them interacting with the Avengers!!! It was really cool to see Luke Cage and more Cloak and Dagger (getting more and more excited for that show!!)Also Karolina breaking my heart Glad I've already looked into the next comic :)Also the art in this one changed again and it's so freaking GOOD!!! So beautiful and PERFECT!!Really loving this series!!!

    3. Ok, this book could have the same author but are two separate stories. The first one didn't like me either dislike me, have some things that i already suspected but just that. Even the plot was so different from the other issues (before and after). And the drawings was n't my favorite, not a big fan of the Archie and Friends (Archie and Friends #82) look. Was really sad the goodbye and i hope maybe someday we'll see him/her again,The second was a little better, we return to the artist from the be [...]

    4. While I liked the story for the second half of this volume, I'm still at odds with the arranged marriage plot and how Xavin's gender-fluidity has always been treated in general. When I was younger I was ecstatic that a transgender character existed in popular media but now I realize it's definitely less than great representation. Believing gender-fluid people should drastically change their appearance to be more attractive to potential partners is really unfair to them. It's already difficult en [...]

    5. This one went deep . . . . poor Dagger. However, I felt like it split in half and kind of left me in the lurch. The story with Karoline should have, at the very least, been brought up or visited as the next story came in. Or it could be that I wanted more of the intersteller stuff that was hinted at the start but sadly denied to me. And I'm a litte nervous it will never truly be expanded on.And with some of the big character depth reveals I'm pretty sure I know who's going to day next in the Run [...]

    6. Tek puanı sadece serinin ortasında çizim tarzı değiştirildiği için kırdım. Yoksa Vaughan yine harika bir cilt ortaya çıkarmış: Bol ters köşeli, bol eğlenceli ve bol karanlıkBu arada New Avengers'lı bölümler de harikaydı. Özellikle Ironman ve Wolverine'in diyalogları 10 numaraydı:)

    8. Bullet Review:Continuing where vol 4 left off, some big changes are in store for our runaways. They have welcomed a new member, Victor, from last volume, and have been approached by Cloak to clear his name. I will admit, the setup is a bit hokey - the kids are asked to find out who who posed as Cloak who attacked Dagger. I mean, really, your best solution is to ask a bunch of kids? For the first two issues, the artwork was changed from the previous 4 volumes to what I guess is an anime/manga styl [...]

    9. Another brilliantly written collection from Brian K. Vaughan. I wasn't expecting them to go "there". But they did! oh yeah!! And after that they met the New Avengers. I'm imagining that these team-up stories are quite difficult to pull off effectively, cos like a new writer is now writing for a number of hugely popular characters which he may not have worked on before and it makes for a different feel to a normal 'Runaways' story arc. But Vaughan does splendidly on all accounts! The first arc ha [...]

    10. This is really a much better series than I expected. Definitely going to be looking for more of these guys in the future!

    11. I said I was gonna sleep but I ended up reading this instead. Oops. This kind of reminds me of Kids Next Door. But with superheroes.

    12. still interesting, but I found my interest going downward in this one. Also the randomly different art style was odd.

    13. For my reference of what happens in which book. (view spoiler)[ A Skull shows up claiming to be Karolina's fiance. Turns out her parents traded their home planet (because they were cast out for being criminals) and their daughter's hand in marriage in exchange for the Skulls leaving Earth alone. He is insistent on her going with him even though she knows nothing of him and a fight ensues. She goes willingly with the hope that their marriage can convince the two planets to stop fighting. Cloak ha [...]

    14. This volume made me uncomfortable, partially because I really disliked some of the reactions Karolina got when she offically revealed her secret, and it just made me very uncomfortable to love these characters and have them say that (view spoiler)[the fact that she was gay was just a phase (hide spoiler)] and that it was because she was an alien made me feel bad, and yes, while this was written in a time period where to accept it would've been taboo, I still don't find it to be quite okay and wi [...]

    15. I liked the Cloak and Dagger sub-plot, and the imposter Cloak part. What I really like about this series is the cameos of dozens of other Marvel characters and the fan-girling of protagonists over the appearance of (Captain Marvel, Captain America, Cloak and Dagger, Spider Man, etc.) I like the new generation of superheroes self awareness of their super lineage and their place in the world. About this volume particularly, I enjoyed that the reader learned that Molly is important. I also really l [...]

    16. "Yes. I'm Batman."Favorite part of this issue: Spiderman, hands down.Overall, I think this is the best issue of Runaways so far. But then again, I may be a bit biased because one of my favorites is in it (reread above comment). I really liked that Cloak and Dagger came back since I felt like their roles got a bit cut off in the first volume. Also, I seriously got a sense in this issue that the main characters had matured a lot since those first few issues. A very pleasant development. The story [...]

    17. Wow! Just wow! Amazing humor and it was very well written. They add more depth to characters like Nico and Karolina and I love the art in issues 7-8. The anime art worked well with the writing. They also had to deal with Dagger's stalker which was creepy but it made for a good, short 4 issue storyline with a really funny interaction between Wolverine and Molly. Also appearances from all your favorite Avengers (Luke Cage, Iron Man, Spider-Woman, Wolverine, and Captain America. Just amazing

    18. Like 2.5-3, my least favorite so far. What's up with the pimp looking guy? Dumb dumb dumb. This series has gotten more juvenile as it's gone along? I'm not sure. The direction seems uncertain and I feel it's full of stupid dialogue. HOWEVER, still a lot of interesting elements. Spider-Man is in this! Also, Molly is really annoying. She's such a better (but older) character in the series on Hulu.

    19. Not a huge fan of the art in this set compared to the last four volumes. I like manga all right and Ms. Marvel (also illustrated by Takeshi Miyazawa) is fantastic, but the sharp left turn mid-series from Yeung’s more detailed/three-dimensional style to big doe-eyes and flat, cartoonish renderings was a bit jarring. (Wouldn’t have thought twice about it if it’d been Miyazawa’s take from the beginning, mind you.)

    20. The Runaways are asked for a favor from the superhero Cloak, who has been falsely accused of assaulting his longtime partner Dagger. That means a trip to New York, a tussle with the New Avengers, and then a trip back, all without founding member Karolina, who left for an arranged marriage with a Super-Skrull. Still fun stuff.

    21. This was real good. The second story was stronger than the first, but both were fun. I loved seeing all the other super heroes, especially Spidey; he's the best. Nervous about the next volume, because the end of this one made it pretty clear that (view spoiler)[someone's gonna die soon. I know who that'll be and I'm NOT READY for that heartbreak. (hide spoiler)]

    22. The art style changes pretty dramatically in this volume, which caught me off guard. But overall, a strong showing, with the introduction of some interesting plot arcs and whatnot. Vaughan is almost always a safe bet.

    23. The series digging deeper into the Marvel Universe is again disappointing. It also detracts from the interaction between the Runaways and Cloak & Dagger. This arc would have been much better without the addition of the Avengers.

    24. Another great Runaways volume! The story is intense, and I loved the cameos of other Marvel heroes. I am so excited to see where the story is going in the next volume . By the way, I love the art in this one.

    25. Dagger has been attacked by Cloak, or so people think. It is up to the Runaways to solve the mystery. Karolina must go back to her home planet with a Skrull prince who is betrothed to her, after admitting she likes Nico. Victor has joined the team and uses his powers to help. Must read more.

    26. EnjoyableSurprisingly fast paced, but still a fun story. As always Molly is my favorite character. Even with everyone else running around, she still manages to surprise me with her moments.
