    1. I am surprised, honored, and thrilled to be the first to review this novel here on , and I hope to do it justice. I had the opportunity to read Drake and the Fliers without knowing anything about it, and that was the surprise, the real treat. The Fourth Descendant author Allison Maruska’s fearless rendering of a post-apocalyptic fantasy about a teenage boy braving a strange new world is original and compelling. Maruska trims the fat in this raw urban fantasy, giving virtually no backstory, and [...]

    2. I received this book as a gift and enjoyed it so much I had to write a review. I love YA fiction and strong characters because I think these portrayals give hope to our teens in a chaotic world. Fictional heroes have a way of letting kids know they can do anything they set their mind to. Drake is one of those positive heroes.I'm not normally drawn to post-apocalyptic novels but I was intrigued by Drake's character from the first few pages. The reader learns that he's a survivor and that he's no [...]

    3. The setting of the book is amazing but it really does not focus on the setting but the idea of war of shapeshifters based on a ideology differences is also kind of cool but for me the book is plagued with a kind of annoying character Preston who starts off as basically a animal rights activists and that is most of his personality and then he becomes a survival of the fittest type villain out of nowhere and the only characters while not as developed were kind of interesting and I wished the book [...]

    4. "Drake and the Fliers" combines romance and coming-of-age in an imaginative post-apocalyptic fantasy that begins when the temporary home of sixteen year old Drake haunted by the loss of his sister to a global virus is vandalized and one of the perpetrators asks him if he's shifted yet. Stunned he doesn't expect that hours later his adventure will begin after turning into a dragon who can spew fire, and nearly barreling into another shape-shifter. Together they hunt for other survivors winding up [...]

    5. While this book had so many, many, many issues, I didn't hate it. I hit the 50% point and kept going, and though I did stop reading soon after, I had considered finishing it.As with many of the books I read, this one was set in a post-apocalyptic Earth. Some kind of virus broke out, killing everyone over 19 and below puberty.Issue the first: Gods above, I hate that. What sense in the world would there be in a virus killing off everyone except teenagers? The first time I saw the idea used, I was [...]

    6. I was sent a free copy of this book by the author. After a terrible virus kills all humanity except for teenagers, Drake finds himself all alone. With his sister dead and the only other visible survivors vandalizing his home, Drake is reluctant to seek out others…That is until he shapeshifts into a dragon.‘Drake and the Fliers’ is an amazing fast paced urban fantasy that I just couldn’t put down. The story follows sixteen-year-old Drake who finds he’s able to shapeshift into a dragon as [...]

    7. I was introduced to the main character in this book by the author’s prequel/serial of Drake’s world, Before the Flight. I loved it so much; I immediately bought a copy of the book.Drake is a typical teenage boy, arguing with his sister Kelsey, in an ordinary world. Then something happened…His father, a doctor at the local hospital had been treating the victims of a nasty virus, a virus that soon decimates the population. They begin to wonder if they are immune, as one by one, all their famil [...]

    8. I am going to start this review in an untypical way, stating ‘Drake and the Fliers’ written by Allison Maruska hopefully is not the last time we read about this character from the pen of Ms. Maruska. The reason is presented story, in same time interesting and exciting, which resulted in a novel that fans of young adult and older readers, as well, will fully enjoy.A novel is written from the perspective of sixteen-year-old Drake who will stay all alone after dangerous virus destroyed human ra [...]

    9. You know you've found a terrific book when you stay up way too late so you can find out what happens! That is exactly what happened with Drake and the Fliers! I couldn't put it down. The story isn't predictable, the characters have great personalities and it's a lot of fun to read!

    10. i was a winneranks to the author. this was an enjoyable read. i passed the book on the a friend for a read. Maybe she will leave a review as well. this is really well written and is worth a read. Very entertaining and i liked it. cheers for the chance to read this!

    11. This was a pretty good book. I wish there was going to be another one that might explain a little more of where/how the virus came about. Good young adult book. Totally recommend this book!
