    1. Choose Your Own Adventure! You are Imhotep, ka-priest of Ancient Egypt, ruler over a family of nitwits and schemers and busybodies, with drama enough to drive you insane. Poor fellow, all you want is a little peace the kind of peace that is found in the arms of a gorgeous concubine. Who can blame you? The only sympathetic person in your life is your daughter, a lovely and tragic young widow. But sadly, the concubine turns out to be as big a drama queen as everyone else in your life and very bad t [...]

    3. Death Comes as the End is a standalone Agatha Christie mystery/drama set in ancient Egypt. Although a murder mystery, there is a ton of family drama and entertaining relationship dynamics to follow. I highlighted many quotes from Ms. Christie's fabulous writing, but as a mystery, this is far from a favorite for me. However, I enjoyed it overall and would recommend it to any Agatha Christie fan.My favorite quote:"Not so easy to kill an old woman. Old women knew the value of life— and knew most [...]

    4. What a story!! What a story indeed!!!I admit, I have read very few of Christie stories, and only two of them weren't translated including this one. Here and now I am mesmerized by her fabulous storytelling. So organized well masked plot and witty characters! There were motive for many and killings took place, but why you may never be sure until the end. I had particularly two in my mind, and one of them turned out to be villainous. So, there is hint if you can observe well enough, but I admit, i [...]

    5. “All life is a jest, Imhotep - and it is death who laughs last. Do you not hear it at every feast? Eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow you die.”Death Comes as the End is Dame Agatha's only historical mystery and she makes full use of her in-depth knowledge of Ancient Egypt. The detail of Egyptian artifacts and religious beliefs Dame Agatha weaved into this was delightful and made up for the odd dalliances with annoying love triangles. What it didn't quite achieve was to give some authentic [...]

    7. Oh! Once again, murder is easy. When you kill once, the next time will be much much easier, and the next, and the nextI sort of felt like this wrote George R. R. Martin, ha!This family at first appeared like others, women fighting for trivial stuff, men proving themselves amongst each other But, all of this was just a shallow picture, and Agatha succeded to prove how, deep down people often carry very different emotions than the ones they 'show to the world'.While I was coming to the end of this [...]

    8. Beautifully written. One of Agatha's very best standalones, and I would have given it five stars if it weren't for the fact that I guessed the murderer about halfway through. Still, that's probably my fault. The novel is elegant, perfectly structured, full of clues and misdirection, with a great cast of characters and possibly the most vile of all Agatha's horrid characters. A very satisfying read.

    9. An Agatha Christie I hadn't read! (I listened to this one, actually.)I've been doing a lot of sewing - yeah, I'm old, female and retreating into something I did endlessly while in college - and so I like to listen to an occasional book while I'm working. I chose this one thinking it was probably a Miss Marple or Hercule Poirot. Boy was I wrong! This is a murder mystery set in ancient Egypt and you could learn a lot about the social mores and family structure of the times just by reading this boo [...]

    12. This book is excellent! It takes place in Ancient Egypt, and it is a murder mysteryof course. I love it! Christie makes sure that anyone could have done itd you suspect everyone at different times. I adore how she develops her characters. Her main character, a woman named Renisenb, I found childish, ditzy, and even idiotic at times. Also, the book takes place during a time when women are not given much respect. The ending definitely surprised me! I would highly recommend this book.

    13. Agatha Christie's Death Comes as the End is a good old-fashioned whodunnit with many layers of characterization and psychological intrigue. Unlike Christie's many other mysteries, such as her beloved Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple series, this one takes place in ancient Egypt. Although the story is technically about the murder of a concubine, it's actually more about the family drama among and the psychological landscape of the central family's members. A ka-priest (priest whose job it is to ten [...]

    15. Very odd. It's good when an author tries to stretch, you know, but it was still the same story, and I didn't like that inching-toward-monotheism business one bit; it seemed terribly disrespectful. Still, I guess all her stories are the same story, so to criticize this one in particular isn't fair; it was how the tone felt like a mixture of genuine narrative and this unpleasant "writing about savages" superiority. If she was taking it seriously, then it's too bad she was such a prejudiced old thi [...]

    16. We all know Agatha Christie wrote a ton of mystery novels, but this, I believe, is her best work. Amazingly well-drawn characters, INCREDIBLY vivid setting (Ancient Egypt!), complex plot that will leave you guessing until the last page. (And yes, I do mean the very last page.) Highly recommended for any Christie lover.

Saya langsung terpikir Fir'aun, mumi, Piramida d [...]

    18. In ancient Egypt, a small family drama turns into tragedy when a new concubine is brought to the home of a wealthy priest. The body count mounts as the true nature of the family circle is revealed.I picked this one up because it's on a best-of-all-time list of mysteries; I called the ending early, which generally disappoints me. It didn't here for some reason. The tension if you know what's coming is about the same as if you didn't, I think, because the danger seems worse if you know than if you [...]

    19. Agatha Christie uses quote to echo the precepts of Ptha-hotep, from maybe the oldest known manuscripts. "Men are made fools by the gleaming limbs of women, and lo, in a minute they are become discolored carnelians. A trifle, a little, the likeness of a dream, and death comes as the end"(Hard to find in p88 Life magazine 1 Oct 1956, yet Christie published book first in 1944 - inside knowledge?) nature - fear, envy, betrayal, love, hate - are every where and when. [...]

    20. I listened to the audiobook as I drove back home from spending Christmas with my family. The beginning of the book, actually most of the book, doesn't feel like an Agatha Christie story. I enjoyed the story as it unfolded, but there were a lot of things repeated over and over again. Sometimes I thought I had forgotten to change the CD. Overall, it's a vey good story, but one you shouldn't "read" while driving. I almost forgot to mention: the narrator brings the characters to life so well, I was [...]

    25. "Your mind is like my mind, it looks out over the River, seeing a world of changes, of new ideas--seeing a world where all things are possible to those with courage and vision" #TeamHoriUnique in Christie's canon for being a historical mysteryt in Ancient Egyptspheric and haunting. Loved it as much as her other works. The murder mystery plot was as flawless as ever and even though this was my second time reading it, I couldn't remember who the killer was and for the life of me could not figure i [...]

    26. Agatha Christie is one of those authors who are unquestionably guaranteed a place in my to- read list as and when I spot her name on a book. This particular book I hadn’t heard about when I spotted it in the library. With no further ado, I picked it up and put it along with my book pile. While waiting at the line, I read the short summary at the back of the book and was immediately intrigued. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get on to the book immediately but when I did open it and read through the [...]

    27. Apparently, Death Comes as the End is the only one of Agatha Christie’s novels to have an historical setting. It is set in Egypt – on the West Bank of the River Nile at Thebes, to be precise – in 2000BC, ‘where death gives meaning to life’. The novel begins with a widow named Renisenb, who has returned to her childhood home with her child, Teti. From the very beginning, Christie sets out the familial relationship within Renisenb’s home rather well. Unlike some of her other novels, the [...]

    28. This is one of my favourite Agatha Christie book, despite its different setting. Imhotep is a priest and a businessman and a farmer. His two elder sons, Yahmouse and Sobek, look after his business while he is away. His younger son, Ipy is considered too young to take much responsibility. Then there is Esa, his mother, Hori and Kameni, his scribes, and Renisenb, his beloved daughter. Yahmouse, Sobek and their wives, Satipy and Kait, live together along with the other members of the household, inc [...]
