    1. With haunting, gorgeous prose, THE LIES THEY TELL is a masterful mystery that will transport you to the dark coast of Maine where big secrets lurk in small towns. Privileged summer families, murder, intoxicating boys and a fierce heroine converge in this novel perfect for fans of WE WERE LIARS and ONE OF US IS LYING.

    2. Pearl lives in a small, oceanside Maine town where there is a fine line between the rich and poor. She is part of the latter and works at the town’s country club along with her dad. Six months earlier, four out of five Garrison’s (one of the rich families who live on Millionaire Row) were shot in their sleep and their house was set ablaze. Pearl’s father was on duty that night and didn’t see anything suspicious until he smelled the flames, and by then it was too late to save the family. [...]

    3. Writing: 4☆Plot: 3☆Enjoyment: 4.5☆Characters: 4☆Overall: 4☆I will post a mini review later this week and full in depth review closer to the release date. Thanks to HarperCollins for sending me an ARC.

    4. Thank you to Edelweiss and HarperTeen for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. Mystery/suspense isn't my typical choice of reading material. But I do know YA. Overall, I liked this book. It kept me reading and wanting to know what would come next. There were some things I didn't like that much, too. The pacing was way off - Pearl never really even started spending time with Tristan until halfway through the book, and the mystery is finally solved in the very last few pages of the book, and [...]

    5. The Lies They Tell is a beautifully slow-paced novel that would be especially appealing to YA readers. The story does contain an element of mystery , and you can say it's almost in the vein of We Were Liars by E. Lockhart. About six months ago, The Garrisons represented a truly flawed family- there's cheating, bullying and a kind of injustice, before they were all shot and then taken by a fire that killed them inside their home, except for one family member who remained alive. Tristan Garrison, [...]

    6. Before Reading:The cover and synopsis are up on French's website. Have fun!You have potential, Gillian French. Let me give your work another shot.

    7. I read this as an ARC provided by the publisher and this is my unbiased review. Strong female character holding her life with her alcoholic dad together. The mom is out of the picture so Pearl has some issues with her mom leaving. This is a classic have and have not story but with a mystery attached to it. If you are part of a summer winter community dynamic this will especially appeal to you or if you have ever been looked through by some one with money, as if you didn't exist you can relate to [...]

    8. French tells another story set in Maine, this time a mystery pitting townie Pearl against the rich tourist boys who seem to know more than they should about a tragedy that killed a family and which, though never officially solved, has unofficially tainted Pearl' s father who was guarding the property that fateful night. French has a talent for pacing her stories and planting just enough doubt that it seems any number of characters could be the perpetrator. It's a page turner. Review from e-galle [...]

    9. A well-written albeit standard YA mystery about rich kids. The pacing was a bit off, and I didn’t like how slow it was up to the last 10 pages, but it was still a page turner from the start.
