    1. Very well written account, not only of the battle itself but of the whole campaign. Pope seems to have set out to write a book that includes both plenty of explanation for new readers, and enough detail to satisfy readers who already know something about it. It's tricky, but he pulls it off well. For example, the book actually starts with the tiny Pickle's difficulties in getting to England after the battle and the reaction to the news the ship brings, and then switches back in time three years [...]

    2. This was exciting because of the battle, but confusing because I don't understand the nautical terms. Someone with a knowledge of the terms & some background in the history would probably enjoy this book that has lots of supporting documentation. There's a list in the appendix of the ships & their captains that I would have found helpful if I would have known it was there (sometimes during the reading a ship would be called by name, then only referred to as the Captain's actions.
