    1. Well written (I can see why people speculated that it was ghosted by Mark Twain), clear, surprisingly thoughtful and even philosophical at times. Kept my interest throughout. I now understand why he and Lincoln had such high regard for one another.

    2. Fascinating first-hand account of a pivotal moment in American history from the perspective of the commander of the Union army and later President. He’s a very clear and direct writer who mixes humility with an acute awareness of political interpretations and potential for perceived slights.     4. So to be honest, I skipped around on this a lot to find battles and events of interest. It's worth looking at just for the intro, famous battles, insights into Lincoln's assassination (he was supposed to be there after all!), and thoughts on the Civil War in general.
