    1. A dream-like meditation on womanhood that simultaneously combines dance, poetry, music, painting, and acting. Just as song lyrics tend to lose their emotional impact without the music performed to accompany them, I think the intellectual/emotional meaning and sense of "Ballade" is lost when Gao's work is reduced to unspoken words and--relative to their original size--a few small water colors that make up "Ballade"'s set (also painted by Gao).
