    1. Much of Victor-Antoine D'Avila-Latourrette's recipes in this and other cookbooks are inspired by or based on French cooking, so they include a lot of cream and eggs. This particular book is definitely on the "meatless" end of the vegetarian spectrum, rather than on the vegetable-centric end. I err on the side of vegan in my cooking, so many of the recipes didn't appeal to me. However, the recipes I did try were incredibly easy to replicate, tasted delicious, and yielded a lot of food (most of th [...]

    2. This is a wonderful cookbook, featuring lots of tasty recipes (230+). And there are full colour photos to accompany each recipeever the photos are unexpectedly not showing the completed dish! This may be frustrating for those who are not particularly adept at cooking. I would recommend this for more experienced (or adventuresome) cooks simply because one has to imagine the flavours & finished results instead of getting the idea from an image or description (Potage Condé, Tourengelle Soup, M [...]

    3. This was a really interesting cook book. I really enjoyed learning a little bit about the care and feeding of Benedictine monks in upstate New York. I look forward to doing more research on this subject, but also, cooking almost every recipe in this book and pursuing his other cookbooks :)

    4. 5 stars for tastiness. Everything in here looks good! 3 stars for health. Its a vegetarian book, but loaded with heavy cream, eggs, and cheese. All tasty, but not particularly good for you. Lots of pretty farm/garden pictures, too.

    5. Another beautiful book of vegetarian cooking. Brother Victor is an interesting man and clearly loves cooking.
